Tip Percentage Guide
- 10% — Below average. Use for genuinely poor service.
- 15% — Standard. Acceptable for average service at sit-down restaurants.

What If the Service Was Poor?
This is genuinely debated. A few honest perspectives:
- If the issue was with the kitchen, not the server — Tip normally. Servers don't control food speed or quality in most restaurants.
- If the server was rude or inattentive — A reduced tip (10%) is a clear signal without being punitive. Leaving nothing is rarely constructive.
- If the experience was genuinely unacceptable — Speak to a manager before reducing or skipping a tip. It gives the restaurant a chance to respond.
- In restaurants with auto-gratuity (18–20% added for large parties) — You can ask for it to be removed if service was genuinely poor, but this is uncommon.
